Play On

Our drama classes are designed with the emerging performer in mind, whether a total beginner or an experienced entertainer, the class will be tailored to who is there and what their needs are. Experiences include games for group cohesion and fun; self-devised theatre processes; working with scripts and character development. Peformances range from informal sharing of work to peers and parents to full scale productions for Whanau, friends and the general public. These vary from group to group.

Upcoming performances

Classes are over for 2017 but we have a fantastic Holiday line up for January 2018!!

Firstly, we have a holiday program from Wed 17 to Fri 19 Jan with the goal of making a play in three days. We’ve chosen “Pan”, an adaptation of the story by J.M Barrie adapted by Craig Sadara. The program is suitable for children aged 8 to 15 and there are plenty of roles for everyone with bright costumes , acting tuition and honing those stage craft skills with a group of like-minded other kids. Our tutors are fully trained teachers.

Dates: Wed 17 Jan – Friday 19 Jan

Times: 9am to 5pm. (You are welcome to drop off at 8.45 if needed).

Cost: $180 + gst

Where: The Studio, 6a Hastings St, Napier

Rumpelimage

Secondly, in conjunction with Urchin – Theatre for Young People, we are producing ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ directed by Kate Tarrant and starring some of our elite Hawkes Bay Youth Theatre students. There will be costumes and lights and singing and good old fashioned fun!! The play will go for approximately 40 minutes and is suitable for all ages.

Times: 10am and 2pm

Cost: $8 Children $10 Adults Family Ticket: $30 (1 adult and 3 children or 2 adults and 2 children)

We are delighted to announce that we are now offering a drama and music experience for babies, toddlers, kindy kids and school students in yrs 1 and 2. These classes will be held in both Havelock North and Napier. Go to the Spring page for all the details!

Havelock North Classes 2018

Due to the fire at Keirunga Gardens Theatre in early August 2016, the Havelock North classes are now held at ‘The Green Room’, Bennelong Place, Havelock North. (It’s the freshly painted blue building behind the Scout Hall on Napier Road which is opposite Te Mata Peak Practice).

This program is run by Jenny Oliver, as part of the Spring program and is all about using drama, music and movement to connect the brain for better learning. A fantastic springboard into the older classes!

Classes are held at ‘The Studio’ 4-6 Hastings St, Napier. (First Floor, above Boyd Dunlop Gallery. Entrance between Viva Gallery and Bai Mint Thai). Please note, only entrance is via stairs.

Saturdays: 11am – 12.30 (This is a one and a half hour class)

Napier Performers – open class, we suggest ages 9 to 15.

Can’t make a weekday class? Here’s an option! Come along for a class on a Saturday and really get the time to stretch those theatre muscles! To learn basic theatre and performance skills, play-building and stagecraft incorporating process drama and performance work.

Cost: $148.00 term (This includes gst and you will be invoiced at the beginning of each term).

Terms and Conditions

All classes must be pre-paid before the term commences. Anyone failing to pay their invoice two weeks after classes have commenced, will need to pay a $10 late fee. Your invoice will be re-issued with this fee added.

No make-up classes will be provided except if the class has been cancelled by The Drama Workshop.

In the case of classes that fall on a Monday, a reduced fee is payable. This is reflected in your invoice.

If you join during the term a term rate will be calculated that includes a $20 administration fee.
