Seven Deadly Sins

By | August 2, 2013

Tonight’s the night…HaBYT’s devised piece ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ inspired by a short play of the same name by Bertolt Brecht gets its first public ‘outing’ at the Hawke’s Bay Theatrefest at Napier Little Theatre. We’re excited to be a part of this festival, especially have created our play from scratch! It explores, you guessed it, the seven deadly sins of Greed, Lust, Envy, Pride, Wrath, Gluttony and Sloth.

The piece was developed through an exploration of Brechtian performance techniques. It is episodic in structure and takes the format of a magazine style news show named ‘Blunt at Five’, giving a somewhat grim but humourous view of the modern world!

Devising and writing a play is a great challenge and the students of HaBYT have risen to this challenge with gusto!
